Consultant – Scotland (Edinburgh or Glasgow office)

We are seeking to recruit an experienced finance professional to assist in developing our fast-growing business in Scotland and the North of England. The successful candidate will support our two existing Directors in Scotland and will be expected to work across a range of sectors, initially focused on property, social housing and corporate clients.  As your career with us develops you will be expected to specialise in a particular sector and support our national sector teams in growing that sector regionally.

The role will be based in central Scotland, from either our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices, with travel throughout the UK to meet client requirements.

There is a degree of flexibility around an applicant’s background but experience of either the structuring and pricing of derivatives or debt advisory in a regulated environment is essential. This could be gained in a consulting, banking or professional services background.  JCRA and all of its client-facing consultants are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.  Any candidate who is not currently an approved person will be expected to undertake the necessary training to attain FCA approved person status (CF30).  Candidates should state in their application if they are presently approved by the FCA and in what capacity/function.

Of critical importance will be a candidate’s commercial awareness of financial risk and their ability to interact at a senior level with clients and targets in both a service delivery and a business development capacity. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate an ability to work independently, display strong technical knowledge and manage a transaction process.  In addition a willingness to develop new contacts and undertake business development activity to support our growth is essential.  The key responsibilities and requirements of the role are as follows.

Role responsibilities and requirements:
Technical and client service delivery

Financial risk management work is a specialised advisory area; however, we provide range of services to our clients.  The candidate must be able to convey a commercial understanding of both individual clients’ business drivers and of key issues impact the sectors we cover.  This is critical as we design bespoke hedging and debt structures to meet our clients’ business objectives.

  • Work alongside our two regional directors delivering best in class risk management and debt structuring advice to our clients
  • Engage with clients to identify their risk exposures, structure the solutions liaise with financial counter parties and manage the execution process
  • Undertake technical and financial analysis and provide clear advice and explanations
  • Maintain up to date market knowledge and awareness
  • Continually improve the service delivery and client engagement process and ensure that JCRA client service standards are being achieved
  • In the fullness of time of the candidate will take responsibility for their own client portfolio and be responsible for the management of all engagements to those clients
  • Our work involves the structuring, presentation and explanation of complex financial transactions and instruments to our clients.  Therefore, strong communication and report writing / presentation skills are considered essential
Business development

JCRA is a growth-driven business.  The candidate will be expected to fully contribute to the firm’s business development activity in terms of our existing clients, new clients and intermediary contacts.  An existing network of contacts and past experience in business development activity would, therefore be highly advantageous and confidence in dealing with clients at a senior level is essential.

  • Assist in designing and executing the business development plan and growth strategy for the region (and contribute to the relevant sectoral business development plans)
  • Grow the fee income and profitability across the regional business with an emphasis on delivering value added service to our clients
  • Relationship building with existing and new clients/financial sponsors/funds/public authorities to drive the value proposition of JCRA
  • Penetrate existing relationships with wider cross-selling of other practice areas and build a pipeline of ongoing repeat/retainer business.  The candidate will be expected to gain a knowledge of the full range of the sectors covered and the services offered by the JCRA group
  • Manage relationships and maintain contact with well-established intermediaries and other advisors (business introducers)
  • Confident in representing the firm in the market (including conferences and networking events)
Internal development
  • Gain an understanding of the range of services and products JCRA offers to its clients
  • Participate fully in sector and cross-sector initiatives
  • Strong project management skills; engagement scoping, risk management, delivery against client objectives and timetable, proactive management of work in progress and monitoring of fee income
  • A team player contributing to success of the wider firm
  • Participate in in-house and external training
Experience:
  • Minimum three years’ experience (Consultant)
  • Strong technical knowledge of financial risk, in any of the capital markets, debt or derivatives
  • Excellent communication skills (written and presentation)
  • Strong commercial awareness of and interest in client’s key business issues
  • Experience of working in a consultancy role would be an advantage
  • A team player who can also work independently (with support) as required
  • The ability to project manage multiple task / engagements / transactions but maintain a clear focus on detail and quality of service delivery against client deadlines
  • Acts with professionalism and integrity in all dealings with clients and colleagues
Qualifications:
  • University educated with a relevant degree (Maths. Economics, Business, Finance) or post graduate / professional qualification (e.g. Masters Degree, CFA, CA)
  • Relevant work experience to meet the technical and client service requirements of the role
  • Languages are an advantage, as JCRA undertakes engagements on a world-wide basis
