Associate Director – Project Finance / Infrastructure

This role will be based in our offices in London, St James’s Square. The successful candidate will be part of the Project Finance/Infrastructure/Renewable Energy/PPP specialist team with a strong presence in the UK, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and Australia.

The team provides independent expertise on all aspects of the financial risk management in these projects, covering interest rates, FX and inflation risks in the main. With a strong reputation in the PPP sector also, JCRA are the go-to premier advisor on derivatives.

Investment in infrastructure globally is growing materially, and JCRA have aspirations to capture this growth and also to grow market share within the sector.

Role responsibilities
  • Work closely with Head of Project Finance & Infrastructure and the team of London based consultants to deliver the fee revenue budget
  • Engage with clients to identify their risk exposures, structure the solutions, provide advice and explanations on the derivative outcomes, liaise with derivative counter parties, manage the execution process.
  • Assist in designing and executing the business development plan and growth strategy for the sector
  • To grow the fee income and profitability from this sector
  • Assist Head of Project Finance & Infrastructure to produce sector activity reports and other internal reporting.
  • To continuously improve the service delivery and client engagement process
Client development
  • Lead key strategic transactions and oversee the engagements being delivered by the team and ensure JCRA client service standards are being achieved
  • Relationship building with existing and new clients/financial sponsors/funds/public authorities to drive the value proposition of JCRA
  • Penetrate existing relationships with wider cross selling of other practice areas and build a pipeline of ongoing repeat/retainer business
  • Manage relationships and maintain contact with well established intermediaries and other advisors (business introducers)
  • Drive direct engagements with public authorities, financial sponsors, infrastructure funds, developers, other advisors and active intermediaries
Business development
  • Work closely with Head of Business Development and Group Head of Marketing to build the JCRA brand within newer geographies (Spain, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, sub-Saharan Africa, Middle-East, India and Australia)
  • Focus on renewables in growth areas where we have had great success – specifically in South Africa, Australia and Asia
  • To grow the wider public sector client base (across Europe), target European PPP pipeline
Internal development
  • Proactive management of work in progress and monthly overview of fee income
  • Evaluate all new business opportunities and ensure compliance aspects of all engagements are met
  • Co-ordinate activity for all work in the sector- including pitch documentation and review of fee proposals
Person specifications
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in derivatives – from a banking or professional services environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of derivatives in some, but not all, of the following asset classes; interest rates, inflation, foreign exchange and commodities
  • Knowledge of deal contingent hedging/pre-hedging with options for transactions
  • Have a natural drive and passion for growth and focus on business development
  • The ability to multi task when working across several transactions but always maintain a focus on detail and quality of service delivery
  • A good working knowledge of the infrastructure and project finance markets and the issues they face around risk management is an advantage
  • Experience/knowledge of the renewables markets would be an advantage
  • Must be able to demonstrate a team player attitude
  • Languages are an advantage – German, Spanish, Italian, French, Hindi, Mandarin
  • University educated with a relevant degree (Maths. Economics, Business, Finance)
  • CFA qualification would be an advantage
  • The successful candidate will need to be registered as a CF30-Approved Person with the FCA regulatory regime.
